Mary Keener


Mary Keener (née Counts) is an active, professional harpist based in Denver and performing throughout Colorado. She is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where she studied with Kathleen Bride and was a recipient of the prestigious Lois Smith Rodgers Scholarship, the Eileen Malone Scholarship, the William and Jocelyn Macy Sloan Scholarship, and also a National Merit Scholarship. Upon graduating, Mary was awarded the Jane B. Weidensaul Prize.

Mary's other teachers include Courtney Hershey Bress, principal harpist of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Renee Wilson, principal harpist of both the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mary has performed in many diverse settings including recitals, weddings, receptions, private parties, formal dinners, conventions, funerals and church services. She has performed with Opera Colorado, the Littleton Symphony Orchestra, the MahlerFest Orchestra (Boulder, CO), the Denver Pops Orchestra, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra, the Lakewood Symphony Orchestra, the Eastman Philharmonia, the Eastman Wind Ensemble, the Eastman Opera Orchestra, OSSIA New Music, the Illinois All-State Orchestra, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Lincoln-Way String Orchestra, the Lincoln-Way Area Chorale, the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Harmony Chorale (Denver, CO), and the Metro State Symphony Orchestra.

Since moving to Colorado in June of 2006, Mary has been honored to play for many private events and for such distinguished guests as Governor Bill Ritter and many Colorado State Senators. In October of 2006, Mary performed for the grand opening of the expanded Denver Art Museum.

Mary’s large repertoire includes classical, popular, and sacred music. She is available to play for just about any type of event and also offers harp lessons to students of all ages.
